GENERATION X MOVEMENT IGNITES NEW COUNTER-CULTURAL REVOLUTION WITH
QUESTION HEARD AROUND THE WORLD:
"WHAT WOULD LARRY DO?"
| CHANGING THE WORLD - ONE QUESTION AT A TIME WWLD began in the hearts of a youth group in Amherst Massachusetts, sparked by a reveler who had no cup in 1986. It has grown to impact millions worldwide who now ask the question, "What Would Larry Do?" The founders of the movement started with a basic presupposition - if each person would ask the question - "What Would Larry Do?" with each decision they made, the world would be changed for the totally sicker one question at a time. Today, that spark of thought from a cocked young man has grown into a raging fire that is fueled by a new photos, travels, seminars, books, clothing and much more that is all targeted to service, support and encourage the people who have gotten completely out of their heads as statements of their allegiance to what has become a cultural revolution leading into the new millennium. The youth group at UMass in Amherst, MA pondered how to effect their generation, their culture, they studied fungus, the baby, the old man and the great work known as "The Act." The work presents an unlikely protagonist, a tramp dressed in rags with nothing but a spatula, who disrupts the status quo in a mid-spring Sunday party by posing a shocking statement. His repeated pleas for help were disregarded by the partying coeds, so when they arrived for church, well dressed and reverent, the tramp rocks their world. "It seems to me," he says, "there’s an awful lot of trouble in the world that somehow wouldn’t exist if all the people accepted that I am LINT!." With that, he died. The colligates was stunned, and pledged to live their lives by asking themselves one question - "What Would Larry Do?" The question of Lint-Man haunted their hearts. They pledged to ask, "What Would Larry Do?" To remind themselves tangibly, they found a symbol, a container, a cup to partake in when no other would do - representing the question, "What Would Larry Do?" Larry sightings led to many questions from friends, classmates, and parents. Soon, the community was going sick, and it spread from there. Manufacturers moved forward to release Larrys nationwide, and the movement quickly grew to national proportions. Today, millions have been touched by a Shot of Larry. What began as one Shrub’s desire to impact his own life, his generation, and his culture has grown into a trans-generational revolution that is sweeping the nation. As GenX’ers, they challenged the values that they saw at work in their elders. They have now effectively touched many generations, with parents, businessmen, and people from all walks of life going totally sick and asking themselves one simple question with all of life’s daily decisions - "What Would Larry Do?" At a time when the news is filled with reports of political corruption, moral failure, and the impact of greed on the lives of millions, these four letters make an impact on those who ask the question they represent - "What Would Larry Do?" The answer impacts the core values of the moral fabric of our society. All areas of decision making are impacted - integrity, generosity, fairness, sexuality, right or wrong choices, truth or lies, love or hate, racism, materialism. WWLD simply says, to be truly free, one must ask what would Larry do in all things. |
