Larry was not amused, but is forgiving. I returned Larry to your cubicle today. He had a nice experience in the Shaul household. Unfortunately his experience was limited to our house. I had him on top of our last minute pile for Israel and one of my cats, most likely P-nut, tossed him off my pile. The cats reported that Larry fit right into their lazy daily activities. I didn't realize he was missing until we were on the plane. I did manage to capture some pictures of Larry with a 7 pound lobster that we had just before we left. Attached is Larry with the monster, I mean Lobster. I am sorry I failed again. I have good intentions, but bad follow through. Jill
06/14/05 - Flipper Reports From The Road with Larry We had a grande olde tyme in Chicago and at Wrigley just this past weekend! More to be told later, and maybe a few pictures I think I took, but we got to take in a bit of the Chicago the Blues Fest, see some friends, go to the storied ball park and see the Sox play the Cubs, and even see some relatives of me lovely wife during this trip (thanks to our friend Denise for putting us up on Sat nite, etc!)... But the game itself was the centerpiece, and what a big show it was! The place is much like Fenway only it's not green. Gee, I thought everything was green! The Sox were ahead in much of Game 2 and the sea of Sox caps and shirts was pretty amazing to say the least. They also have better peanuts out there but the beer costs about the same, so I drank them and enjoyed our seats up under the grandstands behind home plate (sec 218). It was awesome to be there and the crowds were enjoying themselves from both teams! I said to one Cubs family with little kids, "Do you know when the last time these two teams played together?" And one little kid said to me while looking toward his father, "1918, right daddy?" and I said, "No kid, lemme tell ya, see?... They played yesterday!" To this, many a laugh was heard and my joke was spread throughout the stands... I thought we'd win the game and I was also checking stats and standings against the other NL/AL matchups as well. During the end of game 2 with the Cubs, I brought Larry The Lizard down to where the Sox dugout was in an attempt to give him to the team. They needed it because they had been destroyed 14-6 on Friday and were losing now after giving up a nice lead from earlier in the hot day's game at Wrigley. I could not get to the section closest to the dug out but was able to give the lizard to a Sox fan with a note for Kevin Millar. As some may know, I was able to give Millar Larry last year when we met him on the field and that night he hit 3 homers. As well, we all know what happened in Octobah! So I stood and watched 2 great things unfold as the 9th inning began. One was the Sox catching up and getting within one run of tying the game with a chance to pull ahead with 2 outs left, and the other, was the passing of the lizard from fan to fan zig zagging its way toward the edge of the dug out. Very "Fever Pitch" in my mind... In fact, as Larry made his way thru the crowd, the Sox were literally catching up before my very eyes! 1,2,3 runs with two men on! Could they pull it off because Larry makes it to Millar? Would it work--again? Could the Sox pull it off in the 9th and take game 2? Millar may be his team keeper and this could be the boost they need! He wasn't playing on Sat but he was in the dugout by now, for sure... The note simply said, "Hey Millar, here's a new Lizard for the team! Enjoy it and good luck! Remember last time you had Larry?" or something like that... I dunno now, I was drinking. Each fan who had him handed off from the fan sitting behind looked confused upon receipt from the Sox fan giving it to him or her, but they all passed it forward and I saw it get close to the dugout. I think it may have made it down there but just not in time. Alas, the Cubs did win and yet it was a great game anyway and we had a blast. Oh well, we went totally sick just the same. One Cubs fan asked me, "What happened to you guys? You should have beat us today!" And to that I replied, "Well, we were just being like the Cubs!" and he shrugged in agreement and I drank some more congratulating his win. Both teams--and their fans--have seen their share of upsets and losses blowing all hopes, and both have seen elation and greatness come so close. You see, most Sox fan there either came to see a great series between two storied teams, or drank too much to remember any of it anyway. Many wanted a win or a sweep but whatever. it's early yet and maybe Chicago deserves it or we were being lazy in the too hot sun. Either way, we got 'em on one game (Sunday's 8-1 blow out) and we are still only 3 games out of first over here. Maybe it'll be the Cubs this year, but who knows. I just don't think it will be the Yankees, and we have Larry however, so that's all that matters... It's seemed to have worked for Sunday's game and last nite's too against the storied Reds... Can it continue? ;)FLIP
